THE MARVIN DIAMOND GUIDE

Understand your diamond.
Love your choice.

Clear, practical guidance to help you choose a lab-grown diamond with confidence.

01 / THE ORIGIN

What is a lab-grown diamond?

Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds produced in controlled laboratory environments rather than formed naturally underground. They have essentially the same chemical composition, crystal structure, and optical properties as mined diamonds. They are not diamond simulants such as cubic zirconia or moissanite.

02 / HOW THEY ARE MADE

HPHT & CVD

Two established methods are High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). Both create diamond crystals. The growth method alone does not determine a finished stone’s beauty or quality.

03 / THE ESSENTIALS

The Four Cs

Cut influences light performance. Color describes the absence or presence of body color. Clarity evaluates internal and external characteristics. Carat measures weight—not visual size alone.

04 / YOUR STYLE

Diamond shapes

Round, oval, emerald, cushion, pear, princess, radiant, marquise, asscher, heart and other shapes offer different silhouettes. Shape is personal; proportions and cut quality matter within each style.

05 / INDEPENDENT GRADING

Certificates & reports

Where available, review a stone’s IGI, GIA, or other grading report, its report number, measurements, and any listed treatments or growth information. Grading terminology may differ between laboratories.

06 / YOUR QUESTIONS

Lab-grown vs. mined

Both are diamonds. The primary distinction is origin. Pricing and resale markets can differ, and neither origin automatically guarantees a particular environmental footprint. Ask us about the specific stone rather than relying on broad claims.

07 / OWNERSHIP

Care & cleaning

Clean most diamond jewelry gently with mild soap, lukewarm water, and a soft brush, taking the setting and any other gemstones into account. Schedule professional inspections for loose prongs or signs of wear.

08 / THE MARVIN DIFFERENCE
